Language and Culture
The way people speak changes over time. Language also varies by culture. For example, what do you think of when you hear the word “gift”? Did you know that in German the word “gift” means poison? That might not be such a great “gift”!
Now think about the word “sick”. What comes to mind when you hear that word? In American pop culture, “sick” can also be used to mean really cool. For example, “That song is so sick!”
If the Pilgrims were traveling in time, do you think they might have been a little confused if you said that?
