Description of Activity: Create a Compact
New World Rules Aboard the Mayflower
While the original Mayflower Compact has been lost, it was an important document that described how the “Saints” and “Strangers” who came to the New World on the Mayflower would get along and make decisions. Working with at least one other person, discuss ideas for your own version of the “Mayflower Compact” for your home or school. Include rules you think would be important for getting along. Think of some New World Rules Aboard the Mayflower.
Here are some ideas to help you get started:
- What are the rules everyone must follow?
- How will everyone share resources?
- How will decisions be made?
- How will disagreements be settled?
Once you have come to an agreement, write out your Compact and have all members sign it.
